Suspect Thy Neigbor as Thyself 8-29-1981
Things aren't always as they seem to be. It was seemingly always that way between Jacob and his uncle Laban. The two tricksters could never seem to trust each other. And when we look at what is often called the "Mizpah Benediction," we see that it's really a malediction. But God doesn't ask us to trust people. He tells us to love them. Perhaps, before we have our suspicions about other's motives, we should suspect ourselves first.
Genesis 29-31; Psalms 146:3-5; Romans 5:6-8
