_The Message of the Savior Pastor E. Richard Smith 12-21-1980
As we read the words of the old, old story during this time of the year, we're reminded that the Christmas story is a message of peace, hope, love, and joy. The message the angels spoke to Mary and the shepherds is the same message to us today. It's the same message we should be heralding to the world today. It's the message the world needs to hear. God gave us a Savior and Redeemer, and our Savior is coming again. He's coming to bring peace. He's given us a hope that's real. That's the message of "good tidings of great joy that shall be to unto all people." That's the message of God's love for us.

_Why Christ Came and is Coming Again: To Give us a Fabulous, Forever Future
Pastor Stephen Bolhous E-mail Stephen Freedom in Christ Church Welland, Ontario, Canada
Around Christmas, we usually focus primarily on the birth and the first advent of Christ. But in Bible prophecy, the first and second coming of Jesus are linked together. In fact, because of his first coming, we have an assurance of his second coming. And Jesus is coming to complete what began that first Christmas day. He's coming to rule his Father's kingdom on this earth, from this earth, and he wants us to be a part of it. He's bringing the perfect peace in a perfect paradise that was promised in God's perfect plan to the prophets of old. And as his followers, we live expectantly anticipating his return and the fabulous, forever future that awaits us when Christmas is completed.

_The Magi's Message Pastor Michael Hoffman E-mail Michael Oregon Church of God Oregon, Illinois
There always seem to be a lot of questions surrounding the story of the "wise men" who came to visit Jesus some time after his birth. Who were they exactly? Where did they come from? What was the star that they saw? There are many guesses we can make, but all of the specific details aren't what the story is all about. What's really important is how they responded to God's direction. How about us? How will we respond to the "stars" God shines in our lives? What do we have to bring and give to the Lord? In today's message, Pastor Michael reminds us of some valuable lessons we can learn from the magi's journey.
Matthew 2:1-12; Romans 12:2

_Why Jesus was Born Pastor Steve Taylor E-mail Steve Lakeshore Bible Church Tempe, Arizona Check out Steve's blog
There's a lot of talk about the what and the when, but do you ever wonder why Jesus was born? Do you know why he was called ' the Christ? ' Maybe you know he was called ' the Savior, ' but do you really know what he came to save us from? We know he was born to be a king, but do you realize that he came to serve? And if he will be the king, do you know where and when he will rule and reign? Is he ruling in your life now?
Luke 2:11; 1:32,33; Matthew 1:21; Jude 25; Mark 10:42-45; Psalm 2:1,2

Searching for the Christ of Christmas Pastor Gary Burnham
What do we search for at Christmas? The most beautiful tree? The perfect presents? Christmas spirit? Those are often the answers that are sought after at Christmas, but what's really the most important? In today's message, we reflect on the story of the magi. They followed a star in the sky in search of the newborn King. As we remember their story, we're reminded of what we should really be looking for this Advent season.

Why the Christ of Christmas Must Return Pastor Wally Winner E-mail Wally Joy Fellowship Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith
The birth, the death, and the resurrection of the Christ were all foretold. And he came, he died, and he rose from the dead exactly as it was written. But the prophets also wrote of the Kingship of Christ, the Messiah, the Son of David. Just as the angel told Mary that her son would reign on the throne of David, the angels also promised that Christ would return. In him, all the promises of the Bible come together, and through him, all the prophecies of the Bible will be fulfilled. He came, and he's coming. Are you anticipating his second coming? Are you living like you believe it? _

God's Spotlight on World History Pastor Hollis Partlowe
Many great names have spotlighted world history, but Jesus outshines them all. He's the Bread of Life, the Living Water, and the Light of the World. He was the baby in the manger, and he became the Lamb of Calvary. Every detail of Christ's first coming was prophesied and fulfilled. Likewise, every detail of his second coming will be fulfilled in God's divine blueprint. Are you ready for God's spotlight to shine on the Messiah's second advent?
Isa. 9:2,6,7; 11:1-5; 7:14; 53:8,9; Mic. 5:2; John 1:1,14,16; Matt. 2:2; 16:18; 1:1-25; 13:55; Eph. 1:7; Rev. 3:20; 1 Tim. 2:5;

Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be called "Immanuel," which means "God with us." But does that mean that Jesus is God? Does it mean that Jesus is "God in the flesh?" Is that how the term was used by Isaiah in his time? In today's message, we dig into the text to examine how the word is used and what is really being said about our Immanuel.

Voices of Praise at His Birth Pastor Rex Cain 12-23-1973
Sometimes during the Christmas season it's easy to forget the real meaning and message of the Gospel account of the birth of the Son of God. The Almighty, by a miraculous and direct intervention, changed the course of history and the lives of all His believers who have trusted in Him since that wonderful night. And that is why we celebrate. That is why we remember. And that is why we share the true message of Christmas and the second advent we are awaiting. In today's message, we listen to the voices of praise we hear after characters in the Christmas story heard about Jesus. We've heard the same words. Will we rejoice the same way?

_The Prince of Peace Pastor E. Richard Smith 12-14-1980
Usually in this season, we focus on the manger, but in today's message, we focus on the purpose of the ministry of Christ. He came to be a King. He came to restore Israel. He came to bring peace on earth. It was the message of the prophets, the apostles, and even of the angels on the night of his birth. He is ordained to be the Prince of the kings of the earth when he returns. And that's the message of the manger. It's the message of hope we are longing for. Are you ready for the King's return?

_Prophecies Fulfilled in the Birth of Jesus Christ Pastor Mark DeYoung E-mail Mark Blanchard Church of God Blanchard, Michigan
The Old Testament is filled with prophecies concerning the birth of the Messiah of Israel. In today's study, we pause to look at just a few of the samples from the prophets - all written hundreds of years before Christ's birth. As we examine their words, we see how Jesus fulfilled every prediction. He was from the line of Judah and David. He was born to a virgin. He was born in Bethlehem. He is the one. He is exactly what God promised he would be. He is our Savior. Do you believe it? Will you accept him?
Isa. 7:14; Gen. 24:43; Micah 5:2; Luke 3:23-34; Matt. 1:1-16; Gen. 49:10; Jer. 23:5

_A Shepherd's Life and Example Pastor Michael Hoffman E-mail Michael Oregon Church of God Oregon, Illinois
The life of a shepherd in biblical times wasn't easy. They were always outside even when the weather was bad. They always had to be on the watch for dangers. They weren't well respected. But shepherds outside of Bethlehem were the first to hear the news of Christ's birth, and through their lives and examples, we find a pattern for us as believers. We too must be alert. We need to see Christ like they did. And like the shepherds, we need to spread the word about Christ everywhere we go.
Luke 2:8-20; Matt. 24:42; 1 Pet. 5:8; 1 Tim. 4:16; Psa. 46:10; 95:6,7; Mark 10:45; 2 Tim. 1:16-18; John 1:40-42

This is the time of year where we think back to gifts the wise men presented to Jesus - and there's no mention of wrapping paper. But in today's study, we look at how the gift of God was unwrapped for the world. God wrapped his gift in Old Testament mystery. Mary wrapped God's gift up in the manger. And the Holy Spirit unwraps God's gift for all who believe. May others see the gift in us, and watch it unfold before their eyes as we share the gift with them.

Israel wanted deliverance. The people were under oppression. They were looking for God's Anointed to come in power and deliver the people. But they weren't looking for Jesus. Although all of the prophecies indicated how Jesus would come, they rejected him. The hope even for today is that the Messiah will come, that a deliverer is coming to bring salvation to his people. He is the only hope.

During the Christmas season, we often focus only on the birth of the child in Bethlehem. But that's only part of the story. We've a story to tell to the nations. It's a story of everlasting peace that is coming on earth. Are you sharing all of the parts of this wonderful story and the peace that Christ will bring?
Luke 2:1-18; Isa. 9:6,7; 2:1-4; Zech. 9:9,10; 6:12,13; Gen. 49:8-12; Rev. 5:1-14; Haggai 2:6-9; Psa. 37:1-40;1 Thess. 5:1-10; Php. 3:13-21

Peace is an elusive thing in our world, and there are a lot of things that rob us of our peace. But Jesus brings us perfect peace. It's a peace with our world, ourselves, and each other. And ultimately, he will be the Prince of Peace when he comes again.
Micah 5:2-5

_The Voice of Tomorrow: From Among His People Pastor Dale Swartz E-mail Dale Litchfield Church of God Litchfield, Minnesota
In today's message, we look at another prophecy of the peaceful reign of the coming Messiah. We see that the coming King would be the son of God and the son of David. He would be a prophet like Moses and would come "from among his people."
Isaiah 11; 2 Samuel 7; Matthew 1:1; Deuteronomy 18:15

Peace on Earth Pastor E. Richard Smith 12-7-1980
Every year around this time we reflect back on the events of Pearl Harbor when the forces of evil attacked the American command in Hawaii. It was a surprise, and no one was ready for it. No one was expecting it, and no one was prepared. But the real threat today isn't world war or Communism, it's sin. There is great evil surrounding us, and we have been warned. We have to be ready. As we approach the Advent season, we need to remember more than the baby in the manger. That was only the beginning. We need to remember the coming King who will bring peace on earth and goodwill to men as the Prince of Peace. Are you watching? Are you preparing? Are you ready?
Isa. 7:14; 9:6,7; 13:6-13; Php. 4:7; 1 Thess. 5:1-3; Haggai 2:6,7; Heb. 12:27-29; Luke 1:31,32; Eph. 2:14

_Who Do You Say That I Am? Pastor Scott Ross E-mail Scott
Who do people say Jesus is? There are lots of opinions. There were lots of opinions in Jesus' day too as we find out in today's message. But more personally, who do you say Jesus is? Jesus asked his disciples the same question. And the Apostle Peter gave exac the right answer. It should be the same answer for us today. Jesus was no ordinary man. He was "the Christ, the son of the living God." Do you believe it? How will that fact change your life?

_A Sending God Pastor Michael Hoffman E-mail Michael Oregon Church of God Oregon, Illinois
God is a sending God. He sent many different people to accomplish his purposes. But in the Advent season especially, we are reminded why God sent Jesus. Christ came to save us from our sin and to share God's message of salvation. And as followers of our Savior, it's up to us to "get out of the nest" and go into the world proclaiming what he's done and what he will do when he returns. That's what we're sent to do. So how about you? Are you showing God's love and sharing God's message?
1 John 4:7-14; Gal. 4:4; Exo. 3:7,10-14; Psa. 105:26; Isa. 6:8; Dan. 3:28; 6:22; Luke 4:18,19,43; 9:1,2; Deut. 32:11

_The Prophecies of John the Baptist Pastor Mark DeYoung E-mail Mark Blanchard Church of God Blanchard, Michigan
Sometimes we pass right over the Christmas story hardly stopping to mention the story of John the Baptist. But do you remember how significant his birth was? His birth, like Jesus, had been prophesied hundreds of years before by the prophets. And his coming was required before Jesus could begin his ministry. As we look at the birth and the life of John the Baptist, we are reminded of the example he is for us today. He came to prepare the way for the Christ's coming. And now, it's up to us to prepare the way for Christ's second coming. Are you prepared? Are you preparing others? Are you ready?

_You Have a Future Pastor Wally Winner E-mail Wally Joy Fellowship Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith
In chapter 1 of Ruth, Naomi thought that her life was finished. In chapter 4, she sees that it's just beginning. In chapter 1, you find Naomi full of doubt and bitterness and self-pity. In chapter 4, you find her overflowing with joy. This is the God we serve. He can take a life that is empty and afflicted and barren, and fill it with joy and purpose and new birth. No life is forever empty as far as God is concerned. He can redeem any life from any situation. Maybe you think of yourself only as a person with a past. But God sees things differently. You have a future with Him.

_The Answer to our Agnostic World Pastor Hollis Partlowe
We live in an age of worldwide darkness and unbelief. Some say God does not exist and that He cannot be known. But without God, we're without hope. How do we show them our loving Father? How do we answer an unbelieving world?

__Luke's Account of the Birth of Jesus Pastor Terry Ferrell E-mail Terry Greenville Church of God Greenville, SC
In today's message, Pastor Ferrell recounts the story familiar to us all. Or maybe not so familiar? As we look closer at Luke's account, we might notice not everything we think we know about the Christmas story is there. But, what is there is very powerful and very important to our understanding. Grab a cup of hot chocolate, and meditate a while on the story you've heard so many times but may not have really heard at all.

_Goat-Walking to Bethlehem Pastor Wally Winner E-mail Wally Joy Fellowship Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith
Goats don't follow a straight path. They're independent creatures. They wander over and under and around just following whatever way the land goes. Sometimes at Christmas, we get too busy following whatever way the world goes too. But we need to be independent like John the Baptist and focus on the Christ. It's time to "goatwalk" to Bethlehem and not just be a part of the Christmas rush.
Mark 1:1-8,14; Malachi 3:1; 4:5; Exodus 23:20

The Impossible Stain Pastor E. Richard Smith 1981
When Preacher Smith's grandson spilled correction fluid all over his carpet, it left a great stain behind - but it wasn't permanent. With a little scrubbing, the stain was removed. There are "stains" that come into our lives too that we cannot remove. We need to be cleansed. But when we recognize our sins, God can erase them. Nothing is impossible for Him. The stain has been removed by the blood of Jesus Christ. And when our Savior comes again, we will see the impossible on this earth.
Gen. 3:3,4,15; 12:1-3; 18:14; Isa. 1:16-19; Matt. 19:26; Luke 18:15 Php. 4:6,7; Isa. 2

How to Celebrate Christmas Without Going Crazy Pastor Hollis Partlowe
Advent is an ancient celebration that begins four Sundays before Christmas. During the Advent season, we remember the first coming of Jesus as we anticipate the second coming of Christ. But for many, the merry celebrations can be hectic and miserable. As Christians, how can we avoid the exhaustion and be refreshed and rejuvenated in our faith? In today's message, we are given three guidelines to keep our sanity this holiday.
Isaiah 9:2; 7:14; Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; 17:5; 1 Peter 1:9-12; Genesis 3:15; John 3:16; Hebrews 2:3

The Shepherds Shared Pastor Michael Hoffman E-mail Michael Oregon Church of God Oregon, Illinois
Sometimes we're so familiar with the Christmas story that we kind of rush through it without taking the time to find the lessons and application for our lives. In today's message, we pause to reflect on one of the parts of the story of the most significant birth in human history. God had planned and predicted Christ's birth centuries before through his prophets, but no one would expect the first people to receive the announcement outside of Bethlehem. In a field nearby, shepherds were with their flocks. Though they were just humble, simple men and social outcasts, God chose them to hear the glorious news. And once they had encountered the Savior, they spread the joy. They couldn't resist telling others about the Christ. So what about us? Are we announcing the good news of great joy to the whole world?
Luke 2:8-20; Micah 5:2; 1 Sam. 17
